Fabric Goodies

Isn't this beautiful? I ordered it from Blog friend Barb of "Bejeweled Quilts By Barb"

She lives in America Samoa and she has a web-store which has yummy Samoan and Hawaiian fabrics at delightful prices. Look at these seven beauties I ordered from her.

Coming all that distance you'd think it would take weeks but I got them in just a few days.

And she sent me this wonderful cosmetic bag for a treat and let me tell you I am so enjoying it.

So go by and visit Barb of Bejeweled Quilts and there is a spot on her sidebar where you can pop over to her store

I WENT, I SAW, I SPENT--MID-ATLANTIC QUILT FESTIVAL

DD's DH got of early today so we went on out to Mid-Atlantic around 1:30. Hope to get back Sunday. My camera acted up and I only got eight pictures before I stopped working or cutting off sometimes before I could take the picture. Guess battery dying on me. Love the colors in this one.
This was one that caught my eye. I wonder if it is a self-portrait of the quilter...

Love this one too.

This was neat the jars looked SO REAL

Close up of one of the jars....notice the thread painting...

I've been wanting to do an under the water Chesapeake Bay Quilt so I snapped a picture of this for inspiration to remind me to do one base on bay life...

This woman does wonderful 'room' quilts each year...I remember a bedroom, a living room in previous years. You'd swear it was a page in a decorating magazine. This year she did a kitchen scene. You'd swear you had peaked into a kitchen. You could almost smell cinnamon buns cooling on the table.

I loved this one too. Reminded me of Colonial Williamsburg...
Several picture I took didn't show up on my disk when I downloaded them...but I expected that from the way my camera was acting up...

I did get it to work to snap a pictures of my loot after I got home. The furthest back is a handbag patchwork quilt a show special on of the booths. In blues and yellows which are my weakness. Next a French tablecloth panel which can be either round or square. I got one several years ago in blue with yellow. A booth had buy 10 fat-quarters $1.75 each get two free couldn't pass that up. Found some more deals on fat quarters bought eight more and half yards...got three of them. A couple rotary rulers one for Dresden Plate and one two inch square. A wool pincushion (have a weakness for pincushions), Pink Rotary Cutter show special (a rotary cutter Junkie), wood iron (is that the name?)

Got a lot for what I spent.

Thrifting

The other day my friend who is Queen of the Thrift Stores called me while I was ironing fabric. She said she had an iron she had ordered from one of the shopping networks but didn't like it as it was heavy and it was too late to send it back to be returned. I told her I loved heavy irons. I'd buy it from her because mine was getting old, a LOT hours on it and I expected it to die on me any day now. She would try to find in and bring it over but was not taking a cent for it. She came by the other day and it was a Rowenta. I about died!! I was beyond thrilled! Used it last night to iron fabric. It's smaller than my Rowenta Professional model but has the same looking sole plate just a tad smaller. Believe it irons better in fact. The sprayer on mine doesn't work half the time this one works like a charm. Only thing it kept setting off the fire/smoke alarm. I was ironing the same place I always do not directly underneath it but nearby.

While fixing supper last night she called me and described this fabric she saw at one for $2.97. She was at one of the thrift stores in another area of town and she said it was a pile of it. I told her get it I'd pay her. She came on in with this ARMLOAD of blue background large floral print. She thought it had been washed because it felt rather stiff. Between you and me because of that stiffness I doubt I would have bought it. She doesn't have a computer so won't be reading this. I threw it in the washer and dryer. She thought I was crazy to wash it. Told her I threw all fabric in the washer and when it came home with me if it was going to run or shrink I wanted it done before I spent hours making something not afterwards and ruin the project. Out of the dryer and onto the ironing board.
I measured it. Granted it's not top quality fabric but at almost 11 continuous yards for less than Three Dollars!!! I figure I'll use some for a quilt backing and some will be cut up for scrap collection. Maybe a totebag from it. Oh, it did come out softer. It's not wide enough for a decorator fabric but on the heavy side.

My DD had stopped in a thrift store a little over a mile from us and bought a piece of fabric the other day. Told me they had right much in there and a pile of patterns. I needed milk so when I ran out to get it a few minutes ago I ran in there to look. Got some fabric, the price was right, threw it in the washing machine. When it comes out of the dryer I'm cutting it up for Scrap Therapy and Bonnie Hunter Scrap Quilts. I got a pattern for vintage style aprons.
Don't know why this came up sideways it was saved vertically. There were hundreds of patterns in a huge basket. Tons of Vogue. Wish I had time to go through them. Most looked never used. The one I got has been used....I'm just hoping all of the pieces are there.

I did add pictures of the fabrics I talked about under "Tuesday's Ramblings" if you want to see them.

Tuesday Ramblings

Had OB-GYN appointment this morning. I left early, Papa home with the three grandbaby girls. I was taken early as the Stork was flying around one hospital and circling for a landing at another. They rushed me back and through the steps before you see him, saw him and out of there before my appointment time. Since I had some time before I was expected home I made a quick stop by the bank to deposit a check and get some cash. And SHUSH DON'T TELL I then decided my favorite haunt Nancy's Calico Patch was open and I had time to stop by, Papa would never be wiser. They only had two working, one on floor and one in classroom. Owner at a meeting and another employee at teacher/parent conference. But I did get two rulers for an upcoming class. A neat newspaper print in black and white design fabric.

Got a yard. Not sure what I'll do with it but thought I must own a yard of it.Then I bought a few square of fabrics, a couple fat eighth's and fat quarter that took my eye and the main reason for my stopping in to pickup Martha's free Design of the Month.

Will add some pictures later...have to check on supper!!! OH CRAP.....Stocks tumble after Bank Bailout Plan Announced.........just came on braking news alert.........I DID NOT need to hear that.......Not much left in our IRA's as it is now.....and what few stocks we own have also gone to H in a hand-basket.....neither worth the paper they were written on...........sure wish we had sold out back in May!!!

My opinion when they were dropping rates and homes selling for so much more than appraised......they should have been raising the rates..........if they had then now there would be something to lower to help........and heck it may have prevented this MESS.........and apparently since Andrea' husband kept dropping them...........we're doomed...

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY SALE

My favorite Quilt Shop/Bernina Dealer--Nancy's Calico Patch has an annual Super Bowl Sunday Sale. It started back when she was open on Sunday's after church. When she started closing on Sunday's she continued the Super Bowl Sunday Sale tradition...only Sunday afternoon she's open. SO, yesterday baby dear daughter and I went down around two-ish.

In the side room Nancy has her sale fabrics. Yesterday depending on the color of the dot on the end of the bolt---they were either $2. or $4. a yard...great deals on normal $8.95 and $9.95 a yard fabrics. I go these in the sale room which also serves as the sewing machine/serger room and their accessories along with quilting tools.

The paisley was the end of the bolt after my dbg bought several yards of it....a few inches shy of a yard. The Frog one I bought all on the bolt---which was just under three yards. I thought the frogs were adorable. The other two I bought a yard of to have on hand.

Then all the regular priced fabrics were 20% off and all the pre-cuts were 20% off. So I bought three fat quarters they are hidden in the back of this stack. One is pink with ladybugs...I have bought that fabric by the fat-eighth, fat-quarter, half yard cuts, and yardage!!! The one in front of it with the black background is a darling frog and daisy print. I love daisies. And ya know I think I am developing a thing for frogs. If a frog was on it it jumped out to me yesterday. And I just realized...the one in front of it tied with the ribbon...lily pads....must be frogs in that print too... someplace....I've decided after I got home I'm gong back and see if she has any yardage of that fabric and buy a few yards. The squares at the bottom left side and the fat-eighth's are some I though I should have in my scrap collection so they are hitting the cutting mat ASAP to be rotary cut into squares and strips.
Around six we went over to baby girl's for their Super Bowl Party. DSIL's parents and his brother and his family were there too. We always have a great time with them. We are blessed the two families and all the kids and grandkids get along so well and always have fun together. Lots of great food for a perfect super around the TV watching the game.

His brother and his family left before halftime as kids have early school morning. We left at half-time after watching the show as DH has the crud I've had and hope getting over and he was about ready to lay in bed and watch the end of the game. His parents left a few minutes after we did.

The oldest two baby girls are here now while their daddy takes baby-baby girl to the doctor. She's really congested and never really got over the crud she had right at Christmas.

Congratulations to the Steeler's!!! LOCAL BOY DID GOOD!!! Mike Tomlin the head coach grew up in this town, graduated from one of the local high schools--Denbigh High with the great grades which were high enough to get into William & Mary right up the road in Williamsburg with or without his athletic abilities. He did really great in both academics and athletics. A star in the classroom as well as on the football fields. I am sure his parents are SO PROUD as well as the rest of the city for what a fine young man he is...his parents raise him up right!!!

Turkey Art Work, Embroidery CD's and Fabric

This is my precious 2-1/2 old grandbaby taken yesterday when she came by here from her morning at pre-school to show us what she did in art. Is that not the most beautiful turkey you have ever seen?

I had a call today my embroidery CD had come in at my favorite Bernina dealer/quilt store---Nancy's Calico Patch. So I went down and I picked up this...

I was in there the other week and ordered it since it has some designs I think will be adorable on the newest grandbaby's onesies. And some that will be cute on T-shirts for the 1-1/2 and 2-1/2 year old.
Since I had paid for it when I ordered it and I had debated about this one

I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet and the Christmas one on plastic. It too has some cute things to put on the three grandbaby girl's clothes. I'm sure their mommy will find some shirts for me to "worded them" as the 2-1/2 calls it when I did one for her for Halloween and baby sister when she was born in Sept.

Since I am addicted to fat quarters I saw these and had to have them. The upper right hand corner one is of jelly beans. I am collecting food prints for a quilt/throw for my kitchen to throw over one of the two recliners in there by the fireplace.

And I saw this panel for a fabric book to make for the grandbabies.

This is what a section of the panel looks like.

Since I used my market bag...

The shop sells the bag, you embroider Nancy's Calico Patch on it and anything else you desire you receive a free gift when you use your bag when you make a purchase. There is a minimal purchase amount. I don't recall how much but it's something like $15-$20.

Today the gift was to grab a pattern from a basket. And this is the pattern I grabbed...

I think a couple of the fat quarters I bought today would be cute to use in that purse.

Happy Fourth of July, Fabric, Rotary Cutter

Hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth of July. We didn't do family cookout until evening of the fifth. Thursday night we attened grandson's late all-star baseball game in the district tournamnet. They won the semi-final game!!! Go Warwick!!! Then Friday night (July 4) we attended the Pilot's game that night. Pilot's won!!! Go Pilot's. Grandson's team was playing in championship Junior League Division All-Star game Saturday at ten. HOWEVER, we had a lot of rain Friday night and field was to wet. Then more rain Saturday night and field too wet to play noon on Sunday so now hoping to play Monday night at six. Saturday night we did hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill, ate inside because of rain and thunderstorms.

This afternoon I went to Joann's to get some fabric I needed for the Halloween Apron Swap. My favorite shop Nancy's Calico Patch is closed on Sundays. I have some in my stash I thought I'd use for part of it but needed some solid orange Kona and solid black Kona. Also needed two buttons. Naturally the buttons I had pictured in mind Joann's didn't have. I can dream up the most wonderful buttons but no one makes the ones I have pictured in my mind. Maybe I should be a button designer??? While the two Kona fabrics were being cut I asked if they had any new Halloween fabric in yet. She told me yes, pointed me to the section of the rack where I found one I liked much better than what I had in my stash to use. Then back at the cutting table to get some of that luscious fabric I glanced up at the Ginger rack and what did I see???

I asked if Gingher rotary cutters were as wonderful as their scissors. She said she hadn't been working there long and didn't know. But she loved their scissors and would think so. Then I noticed a sign reading 50% OFF on all quilting tools. I asked if that included the Gingher Rotary Cutter and it did! You know it...that little beauty came home with me.

Well, let me tell you!!! That is one WONDERFUL Rotary Cutter. I know I would never have paid full price but 50% OFF it's worth it!!! I would have waited until it was on sale or I had 40% off coupon. Let me tell you she glides through the fabric. I was flipping the retractable blade switch back and forth several times and the dingbat that I am I thought I had the blade out when I saw the silver part and tried cutting the fabric and nothing. Then I slide the switch again paying attention that time and saw that the black disk is the blade. Tried it and swoosh through the fabric. I'm in love!!!

I see on Joann's website they also make a rotary cutting mat. I've heard you should use the same manufacturer's mat as rotary cutter. I'm not sure if that's the truth or a sales gimmick. I appeared to be fine with my Olfa mat. Granted it's old and well used so if does mess that old mat up I won't be too upset as I have a new one on my Christmas list.

Fabric, Patterns, Baseball, Halloween

Well, we don't have a game to attend tonight. Grandson and another player collided during game Saturday evening. Have not heard who had called for the ball. Or whose ball it was to catch according to where was hit and what position they were playing. At first they afraid grandson had broken his ankle but ER said it was sprained. They put his ankle in an air-cast. Sees an orthopedist this week. His dad took him to dad's sister's pool and worked on it Sunday. Afterwards his mom said he was walking better and looked better too. She said he would wear uniform jersey and sit on bench supporting the team tonight but he called and said he wasn't going. At any rate with the EXTREME HEAT we're not attending. Going to stay home in the AC and ceiling fan and keep as cool as possible.

Over the weekend I ordered on-line some fabrics and patterns. One arrived today from the Fat Quarter Shop. I ordered Sunshine & Sunflowers Quilt of the Month Book Design Originals, and Ho Ho Ho Pattern by Pearl Louise Designs. The Ho Ho Ho pattern I thought would be cute to make up for Christmas either for myself or one of the daughters. I love sunflowers and so does youngest daughter. I'm sure I'll find plenty in it to do up for either of us.

Fabric wise I bought a variety of pieces that tugged on my heartstrings. Daydreams Peony Paisley, Fanciful Felines Blue All Over Cats, Fanciful Felines Purple Cute Cats, Fanciful Felines Aqua All Over Cats, Fanciful Felines Pastel Panel, Fanciful Felines Pink Cute Cats, Marcus Brothers Blue Christmas Magic, and Farmers Market Pineapples.

Some of the fabric I have no idea what I'll do with it but I KNEW I must have them for my stash.
The Fanciful Felines line I have an idea I'll use them to make something for my cousin's daughter. She'll be the big 40 this August. Since her mom died she and I exchange birthday gifts. She loves cats and Halloween. I've been wanting to do something either quilted or a tote or purse for her. I'm thinking a cat purse/tote-bag for her birthday day. And maybe something Halloween theme in October. Maybe a table runner or wall hanging. She like her mom goes all out for Halloween. Her mom, my first cousin died three years ago. When her mom was alive she would dress up and go to this daughter's home and help her with giving out candy and treats. Now, this isn't answering the door and a candy bar, etc. This is a yard all decorated, front porch decorated. They dress up. Inside decorated too. She serves punch, homemade treats (cakes, cookies, cupcakes, fudge, deviled eggs, sandwiches), purchased candies, cookies, etc. It's a big Fall Festival for their friends, friend, relatives, and neighbors. I sure wish I lived close enough to attend.

I ordered some baseball fabric from Fabric.com. I've been collecting baseball theme fabric to do a quilt at least throw size for my husband.

Fabric and Shoes

Quilt pattern and fabric I bought at my favorite haunt "Nancy's Calico Patch" the other week. Now to find time to start working on it. I love the French blue and yellow fabrics. This will be pretty in either my master bedroom or in the living room.

In today's mail arrived a box of fabrics I ordered on line from Got Fabric.com. I can never get over how quickly merchandise I order from them in Hilo, Hawaii gets to Virginia.

The blue daisy and ladybug flannel is for a receiving blanket for my next granddaughter to arrive in September. Her mommy is doing her nursery with a ladybug motif. I'm going to do a crochet edging around it.

The pink ladybug fabric is to trim some diaper burp cloths for her, maybe a bib...any other ideas???

The green tropical foliage is for my stash. The pre-quilted tropical fish I'm going to just bind the edges and something the babies can lay on the grass for picnics or at the pool side.

The turquoise and hot pink Hawaiian print...not sure what that will be used for. The pink design is in a stripe so...several ideas floating around my head...in a quilt, in a tote-bag, in a garment???

These are my favorite shoes for spring. They are so comfy. I have been living in Crocs. These are a little dressier and are by OAKb. the ribbon bow is so you can switch it to match outfits.

Today I went with DH to Bass Pro and found this pair of Crocs. I love them!!! The strip across the toe has an insert that looks like black patent. A little dressier for them.

And these...are from Bass Pro too!! Flip-flops and the straps have rows of rickrack!!!
